Mothers and Babies Text Message (MB-TXT) Pilot Project

The Mothers and Babies Text Message (MB-TXT) Pilot Project, funded by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), conducted from 2017 to 2019. The project aimed to enhance the effectiveness and scalability of the Mothers and Babies 1-on-1 program in home visiting programs. This small-quasi-experimental study assessed the feasibility and acceptability of integrating text messaging enhancements (MB-TXT) into the Mothers and Babies 1-on-1 program. In partnership with 9 home visiting programs, the study enrolled 28 ethnically and racially diverse pregnant women who were randomly assigned to either receive Mothers and Babies 1-on-1 or MB-TXT, a combination of Mothers and Babies 1-on-1 supplemented with weekly text messages focusing on skill reinforcement, project reminders, and self-monitoring of depressive symptoms.
